Common problems occur in self adhesive label cutting process

Die-cutting is an important link in the production of self-adhesive labels. In the process of die-cutting, we often encounter some problems, which will lead to a significant reduction in production efficiency, and even may lead to the scrapping of the whole batch of products, bringing great losses to enterprises.

1. The films are not easy cutting off

When we die cutting some film materials, sometimes we find that the material is not easy to cut off, or the pressure is not stable. Die-cutting pressure is particularly difficult to control, especially when cutting some relatively soft film materials (such as PE, PVC, etc.) more prone to meet pressure instability. There are several reasons for this problem.

a. Improper use of die cutting blade

It should be noted that the blade of die cutting film materials and paper materials is not the same, the main difference is angle and hardness. Die cutting blade of film material is sharper, also harder, so its service life will be shorter than die cutting blade for paper surface material.

Therefore, when making a knife die, we must communicate with the supplier about the die cutting material, if it is film materials, you need to use a special blade.

b. The problem of film surface layer

Some film surface layer has not done tensile treatment or improper tensile treatment is used, then it may lead to differences in the toughness or strength of the surface material.

Once you encounter this problem, you can replace the material to solve it. If you can’t replace the material, you can switch to circular die-cutting to solve it.

2. Label edges are uneven after die-cutting

This situation is caused by the precision error of the printing press and die-cutting machine. In this case, you can try the following solutions.

a. Minimize the number of die cutting plates

Because there will be a certain amount of accumulation error when making knife plate, the more plates, the greater accumulation error. In this way, it can effectively reduce the influence of accumulated error on the die cutting accuracy.

b. Pay attention to printing accuracy

When printing, we must control the dimensional accuracy, especially the accuracy of the plate head and end interface. This difference is negligible for labels without borders, but has a greater impact on labels with borders.

c. Make knife according to printed sample

The best way to solve the label border die cutting error is to take the printed product to do the knife die. The knife mold manufacturer can directly measure the printed product spacing, and then do the exclusive knife mold according to the actual space, which can effectively eliminate the accumulation of errors caused by the different size of the border problem.
